Product Description From the New York Times bestselling author of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants comes ?a glorious novel of unrequited love, longing and the meaning of friendship.?( Adriana Trigiani, New York Times bestselling author of Big Stone Gap and Lucia, Lucia
Riley and Alice, two sisters now in their twenties, and as fiercely different as they are loyal, have spent every summer at their parents? modest beach house on New York?s Fire Island. Each year, they return to the house and community they have known since they were children?and to Paul, the boy next door. Lovely book November 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This story really touched me - the story of the friendship of the three children (two sisters and a summertime neighbor boy) and how that relationship changes as they get older and the complications that result hit a nerve with me. Who hasn't been the one left out? And how do the two in the new relationship deal with the third again when that first trio is broken? I was hooked from the beginning and I almost felt that I was a character in the book myself while I was reading it. The author helped to create for me a sandy, wind-swept island where I could get lost in this story for a few days.
Angieville: THE LAST SUMMER (OF YOU AND ME) November 6, 2008 I haven't read any of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (Sisterhood of Traveling Pants, Book 1) books and I haven't seen the movie. But when I read about Brashares' first adult foray, it sounded like the right time to give her a shot. THE LAST SUMMER is just lovely. The writing tripped along as pleasantly as waves washing up on Fire Island. Main trio Alice, Paul, and Riley try to navigate their post-adolescent years while holding their difficult relationships intact. The quiet, clean writing fit the way the characters were moving into adulthood. Slowly. Reluctantly. If they must. The way we all do.
Excellent page turner November 5, 2008 I couldn't put this book down! Great easy summer read. I hope this author will write more books for adults in the future.
loved this book. October 18, 2008 I loved this book. It was extremely interesting and definitely caught my interest, as I couldn't put the book down once I started reading it. I loved the story and it kept me on edge throughout the book and I had to keep reading it to find out what happened at the end. It was very moving and I definitely cried through the entire end of the book. This is a definite MUST READ.
Dull and disappointing October 9, 2008 These characters just weren't fleshed out enough to me and the story is sooooo slow-moving. Even though the poignant sections were well-written, I just didn't care very much about the characters.
