Rolex Yachtswoman Yachtsman Award 2017

Nominations are open for Yachtswoman and Yachtsman of the Year which is an award sponsored by Rolex.


This voting process is mediated by US Sailing. The organization is known to hold this vote early and these awards help to honor the foremost individuals in such categories every year.

Every member of the US Sailing organization will be eligible to nominate a female as well as a male member and the votes will be taken in till November 30th 2017. The votes are given on the basis of outstanding performance that sailors exhibit on the water as per the events that have taken place in the previous year. Hence, in this case the votes would be for performances seen through 2017 as the calendar year.

These awards are not new and have been around since 1961. At such a time Rolex Watch USA became the sponsor and US Sailing started this award ceremony. Since the year 1980 the awards are given out as an annual presentation by US Sailing whereby the Rolex Yachtsman as well as Yachtswoman of the Year awards is given. Individual female and male US sailors are recognized in this award ceremony as per the performance levels they have exhibited in national or international events. (more…)

Lionheart Claims Boat International Superyacht Regatta Trophy

There were six strong J Class boats that took part in the second edition of the Superyacht Regatta event as part of the America’s Cup.


The Lionheart J class got the better of the other J Class racers to win the coveted Boat International Superyacht Regatta Trophy. They performed at their best during the regatta.

This win by Lionheart would give the team a very good boost and encouragement as they had to come from behind to claim the victory. They started the race very badly as the breeze had faded on their side during the first part of Race 1. But, this did not deter the team members, and they sailed with full vigor and consistency to win Race 2. They also gave Svea a tough fight and claimed victory from them. They were able to win the J class, race by staying 3 points clear of Ranger and Velsheda. These two teams were tied at 10 points each. (more…)

Fernandez Is MAPFRE’s Skipper For Volvo Ocean Race

Xabi Fernandez, the former Olympic gold medalist from Spain, has been named as the skipper of the MAPFRE for the Volvo Ocean Race for 2017-18. He won the Olympics gold in Athens in 2004 and followed it with a silver performance in the 2008 Olympics event.

Fernandez along with his partner in crime during both the Olympic triumphs, Iker Martinez, has had the experience of skippering the MAPFRE 2014-15 campaign. This time Iker will not be there to partner Fernandez as he will be focused on other professional projects. (more…)

New Framework For America’s Cup

A new framework of America’s Cup has been designed and accepted by the teams.


The new framework the trophy aims to make the things easy like meeting cost hi-tech boats that goes multi-million dollars, give clarity for sailors, broadcasters and fans and raise sponsorship.

Till date five out of six competitors those are participating in the America’s Cup taking place in Bermuda have agreed to the changes made. The only one who has not signed and agreed to the plan is New Zealand team Emirates.

Glenn Ashby skipper of ETNZ said, we got information about the changes in July, and that time it was only the proposal, however, we are still concerned about the restrictions that this change will impose on the team.

On this move of Team Emirates Of New Zealand, Land Rover BAR CEO Martin Whitmarsh said that, the managing team is hopeful that ETNZ will soon be the part of this move as the changes are good for the stakeholders of the championship. (more…)

SA Will Do Sailing Transformation

South Africa is all set to redefine sailing in the country.


It has taken a significant step in the direction and has appointed a full time CEO and transformation councilor to do the task. The CEO is Greg Smith and the councilor is Golden Mgedeza. Both were appointed on 1 November and are being given the responsibility of transforming sailing sport incontinent.

The objective behind appointment this personality is to get regains the interest of players in the sport and makes strong participation in coming Olympic game. Speaking about appointment South Africa Sailing president Philip Baum said “It is extremely crucial that this sport should reach to a large number of people in the country. Only then the country will get talented players. The ultimate goal of promoting sailing in South Africa is to get success in all international level events. However, we also want to grow this sport in the country and want participation by a large number of people”. (more…)
